Overview
In many industry sectors, it is vital that data and information important to safety and the environment is effectively managed throughout the lifecycle of assets, from design through to decommissioning, and shared across supply chains. This issue came into tragic focus in the Grenfell fire and Dame Judith Hackitt’s review which recommended creation of a ‘golden thread’ of information on the safety of high-rise residential buildings, a requirement now enshrined in law. Similar demands exist in other hazardous sectors such as nuclear, transport and the wider built environment, in which the availability of relevant information to those who have duties under the law, as well as the public, is essential. The fulfilment of such needs requires a multi-disciplinary approach involving engineers, safety and environmental specialists as well as professionals in information management . Following on from a successful event on the use of Open Data in 2021, this Hazards Forum event brings together experts form a variety of sectors to shed light on how data and information can be shared for safety and environmental benefit, with perspectives from government, the engineering professions and solution providers.
Speakers
Carl Collins, Head of Digital Engineering at Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).
Carl began using CAD in 1983 with the first commercial release of AutoCad with experience in Electro-Optic Instrument systems and building services, having studied and practised as a mechanical design engineer. As well as being highly conversant with document control and IT systems, Carl is an experienced user and manager of AutoDesk products, including AutoCad and Revit.
Carl was BIM Leader and Pioneer for Arup Associates and Global Content Leader for Arup for over 12 years.
Carl has worked with various standards institutions writing the standards that support BIM in the UK and internationally.

Jade Cohen, Co-Founder and CPO of Qualis Flow (QFlow), a company using digital technology to help construction companies manage their social and environmental impacts.
Jade Cohen is an environmental scientist, and Co-Founder and CPO of Qualis Flow, a construction tech company committed to reducing carbon in construction. After spending time on site on two of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects – Jade created Qualis Flow in 2018 alongside industry peer Brittany Harris, bridging the AI, software and civil engineering worlds.
Jade champions promoting awareness, encouraging new ideas and taking action to work towards a more sustainable construction industry. As part of her commitment to this cause, she sits on several advisory panels including for ZERO Construct and the UK Green Building Council.

Gordon Crick, Health & Safety Inspector, HSE
Gordon Crick has been an Inspector in HSE for over 30 years, most recently working in the Construction Division as part of a recently formed Technology and Innovation Unit. Gordon leads the BIM 4 Health & Safety Working Group, and is technical lead for the Construction Risk Library Project which is funded through the Discovering Safety Programme. Gordon led the Regulatory Pioneers Fund Project “ Sharing Data Saving Lives” , working with Atkins, The Open Data Institute and Metis Digital.
