Engineering an Efficient and Sustainable Cold Chain
IMechE live online seminar
Overview
The cold chain is responsible for approximately 2.5% of global greenhouse gas output. Given the UK’s pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, the engineering community need to consider more efficient and sustainable ways of delivering cooling. The face of the cold chain industry is also undergoing considerable change. The impact of COVID-19 on food shopping and storage habits, preparations for global-scale vaccine distribution, and the UK’s departure from the EU all pose significant challenges.
This seminar will focus on improvements to the entire value chain – from production to storage, transport, and eventually retail.
Hear from world-renowned cold chain leaders drawn from industry and academia. These expert speakers will explain how novel technology and approaches are being developed and applied to tackle complex cooling problems. Hear the latest research into pioneering, low-carbon cooling solutions as well as process improvements to reduce emissions. Finally, learn about the application of novel refrigerants and Internet of Things (IoT) devices to the cold chain.
Be part of this critical discussion alongside representatives from supermarkets, pharmaceutical companies, medical organisations and cooling solution providers as well as industry regulators and policy makers.
